Accredited Investor Protections
Prior to opting-in to become an Accredited Investor, it is important that you also understand the risks associated with doing so.
Accredited Investors are assumed to be better informed, and better able to access resources to protect their own interests, and therefore require less regulatory protection. Investors who agree to be treated as Accredited Investors therefore forgo the benefit of certain regulatory safeguards.
For example, issuers of securities are exempted from issuing a full prospectus registered with the Monetary Authority of Singapore in respect of offers that are made only to Accredited Investors, and intermediaries are exempted from a number of business conduct requirements when dealing with Accredited Investors.
Investors should consult a professional adviser if they do not understand any consequence of being treated as an Accredited Investor.

As part of ongoing reviews of industry standards, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) will be imposing an industry-wide leverage restriction on FX, resulting in minimum margin rates increasing from 2% to 5% for retail investors. Accredited Investors will be exempt from the restrictions and will thus will retain 2% margin rates.
The new legislation will be effective from October 2019, after which time retail clients will require a minimum 5% margin rate to cover positions on FX markets.
As an Accredited Investor, you will have access to higher leverage (50:1) on FX pairs than retail clients (20:1), meaning you will need to hold less margin to cover positions. Accredited Investors also receive additional account benefits such as priority service and cash rebates, but will receive less investor protections than retail clients.

As an Accredited Investor, you will forgo some of the protections afforded to retail clients under both the Financial Advisers Act of Singapore (the “FAA”) and the Securities and Futures Act of Singapore (the “SFA”). You can find more details here. As a result of access to higher leverage on FX, you will also be liable for greater potential financial losses should the markets move against you. You should consider carefully the risks associated with becoming an Accredited Investor prior to applying.
